What our patient’s say…
“I felt my hamstring pull during a training session a week before a cup final. I was gutted as I initially thought I was definitely going to miss the game. I contacted Bob Griffiths, he gave me hope that I would play from the first visit. His treatment was like nothing I’d ever experienced before. I practically ran out of the clinic without any pain. I played on the Saturday and we won, I cannot thank him enough for getting me fit in time.” Pete Marshall, 28, Rugby Player
Muscles can become strained or torn when excessive force is placed upon them. Following an injury, muscles repair using weak ‘scar tissue’. This leaves the muscle susceptible to re-injury unless the scar tissue is broken down using treatment, which allows strong muscle tissue to form. This is why you see professional athletes receiving intensive treatment following a muscle injury.
Muscle strains/tears can appear anywhere in the body. The most common places are the hamstrings, hip flexors, calfs and groin. The pain can vary from mild to severe, depending on the scale of the injury. The pain is sharp when the muscle is being used, although sometimes discomfort may be felt at rest.
Muscle strains are caused when the muscle is overloaded during activity. If the muscle cannot cope with the amount of pressure, then the fibres will strain or tear.
At Pro Performance, we address the underlying cause of your muscle strain, including your biomechanics, foot function, training techniques, core muscles, stretching programs and equipment setup. This ensures lasting results.
A muscle strain/tear can be diagnosed following a full case history and physical exam. MRI and ultrasound scans are only necessary if a complete rupture is suspected.
Early treatment for muscle strains/tears can improve the speed of your recovery. At Pro Performance Clinics, we treat the cause and the symptoms of your muscle strain/tear simultaneously, returning you to training stronger than before.
We break down weak scar tissue and promote healthy muscle repair using advanced treatment techniques. Strength and conditioning exercises then rebuild the muscle to full fitness, so that it can withstand the forces you put through it during sport, giving you full confidence to use the muscle during competition.
1. We use Neuro Muscular Re-education(TM), Active Release Technique(TM), medical acupuncture and ultrasound to break down weak scar tissue and promote healthy muscle fibre growth.
2. We guide you through specific rehab exercises to restore full strength and power to the injured muscle.
3. We correct the underlying cause of the pain; lower limb muscle imbalances, leg length difference, foot overpronation, faulty running style, misaligned pelvis, poor training techniques etc.
Your muscle strain or tear is very different to everyone else’s, so your treatment plan will be uniquely tailored to suit your individual condition.
We make preventing muscle strains and tears simple. We guide you through an easy to follow stretching and strengthening program that builds healthy muscle tissue and corrects your biomechanical imbalances. Through video analysis we adjust any faulty running technique or footwear problems. We will discuss your rehab program with your personal trainer/athletics coach/yoga or pilates instructor to ensure you return to training even stronger than before.
